WSOG ’23 Event #02: McClary battles a tough field to take PLO bracelet.

McClary took on a tough 15 player field. While the younger Braswell got off to a fast start (earning the Fast-Break Bonus) quadrupling his stack, the field battled on, with 8 players going late into the rounds. Dang poured it on towards the end taking second and earning the Chip & Chair Bonus by moving up 9 spots to finish 2nd in the event. Brasswell finished 3rd, while Sudduth (who finished strong in Event #01) took 4th. Cake ended up bubbling, and the entire field played some good Omaha.

The World Series of Gundam Championship run heats up as two players separate themselves from the field, T.McClary & M.Sudduth, by having finished strong in the first two events. However, the peloton remains compact, with 3rd place and 13th place only separated by 8 pts (less than 2nd to 3rd). With so many events remaining the Championship is still up for grabs.

WSOG ’23 Event #01: Hoffman almost goes wire-to-wire.

Hoffman outlasts a 17 player field to take down Event #01 of the 2023 World Series of Gundam (WSOG). He started fast out-of-the-gate getting the Fast Break Bonus, and nearly kept the chip lead throughout the tournament eventually finishing off SudduthM in a long heads-up battle. MeiresonneB took third while the all-time bracelet leader, McClaryT, finished 4th. WellmanE grinded his card-dead hands from 14th to 5th, earning the Chip & Chair bonus and the bubble. Next tournament Hoffman will be a target with the Bounty Bonus coming into play.

WSOG Champion is Crowned: S.Braswell holds onto 1st place to become the 2022 WSOG Champion.

2022 WSOG Championship Mug, Hat & Necklace awarded to Scott Braswell for out performing a field of 26 players over the course of 12 WSOG events.

After a brutal start to the tournament, where it looked like M.Braswell was going to overtake his father (S.Braswell) for the year long WSOG Championship victory, Scott fought back, climbing from 20th place to finish in 7th which was enough to secure 143 points (5 more points than 2nd place) and win the 2022 WSOG Championship. Decker’s strong 1st place finish in the Main Event (2nd consecutive Main Event victory) took him from 5th place to tied-for-second with M.Sudduth (who went from 4th to tied-for-second). Both M.Braswell and D.Shull dropped a few places, with M.Braswell falling from 2nd to 4th and D.Shull falling from 3rd to 5th.

Decker wins his 2nd Main Event victory in a record breaking field of 22 players! This year’s Main Event was huge, starting with 3 tables. AndreaW. played strong throughout the tournament finishing in 2nd place, while C.Dorsen brutalized players on his way to 3rd place. M.Sudduth wielded his short stack just previous to the bubble bursting to fight his way to 4th place. In a very impressive come-back, LeviC, got hit hard during the first few minutes of the tournament running into Sudduth’s straight flush (but making a very good fold.) But he fought back strong getting the Chip&Chair bonus by going from 18th place (in 3rd round) to finishing in 5th place.

WSOG #11: L. Dang wins his first major event in the coveted Mixed Game.

Hoffman, who got to a fast start and held the chip lead most of the game (earning the fast-break bonus) was eventually over taken by L. Dang about when the bubble-burst. Dang catapulted from the bottom half, to chip leader, earning him the chip&chair bonus along with the victory. Once again, Jean (aka ‘the assassin’) took out S. Braswell early on to earn the bounty bonus.

It was an exciting event, where S. Braswell took a lethal hit early in the tournament, allowing M. Braswell to close the Gundam Point gap to 5 points. The top 4 places remain extremely dynamic. Even though the top 4 spots did not change their positions, the points separating the positions has compressed, and with the Main Event doubling all points, when the dust clears it is hard to say who will end up on top.

WSOG #10: M. Braswell closes the lead on S. Braswell by winning the Badugi Event and collects his 3rd bracelet.

For the first time in 4 months Matt put an end to the other Braswell (Scott) increasing his first place lead, closing the 2nd place gap by 10 pts. With the Mixed-Game and double-point Main event to come, 2nd thru 4th place have the ability catch Scott if he falters while they take a top spot. Eric W. came out of retirement to take 2nd place and continues his free-rolling streak beyond the 2-year mark. Berg goes beyond the bubble for a nice 3rd place cash.

WSOG #09: McClary, the defending WSOG Champ, grabs his first 2022 bracelet winning the Pot-Limit Omaha High/Low Bounty Event.

McClary, the 2021 WSOG Champion, finally flings the flailing monkey off his back by taking down the Pot-Limit Omaha High/Low Bounty event, knocking out the last 4 players at the table for a total of 5 bounties collected on his way to victory. Decker took second place, while the unstoppable Scott B. still cashed in 3rd (and once again, pulls further ahead in Gundam Points.)

WSOG #08: Jean S. takes 1st and collects 7 of 9 bounties at the final table.

The 16 player WSOG Event #08 (No-Limit Hold’em with bounty) started with Cody L. taking out the first 3 players and jumping to a quick lead. While Cody ended up in the money (4th), it was the strong finish (going from 15th to 1st place) of Jean S. that resulted in a bracelet being shipped to Texas. Jean ultimately took down Doug S., who had a strong 2nd place finish (and is now 2nd in overall Gundam points.) Scott B. continues to finish strong in tournaments with a 3rd place finish as he received the Fast-Break Bonus. Jean collected the Bounty Bonus by knocking out Scott.

Gundam Standings: The strong finish of Scott B., leaves him with a comfortable 20 points lead (but there is still a lot of poker left to be played.) Doug S. leap-frogged two positions and is now 2nd place in the standings. Mark S. took a hit by being the first one out, dropping to 4th, while Matt B. is keeps his 3rd place spot.

WSOG #07: Decker manages a stealthy 1st place in the first Hold’em 6+ Tourney.

Decker manages to overcome his typical dismal tournament play and place 1st in the Hold’em 6+. However, S.Braswell, finishes 2nd (again) placing him in 1st by 7 points ahead of M.Sudduth. M.Braswell is in a close 3rd. Shull got to a fast start winning the Fast Break Bonus. Meyers started slow and finished string for the Chip&Chair bonus. Interestingly, S. Braswell, lost a Bounty to Decker but picked up Sudduth’s bounty. With more than 1/2 the tournaments points still in play, anything can happen!

WSOG #06: Sumner is Victorious in Stud-8

After taking 2nd place in WSOG #5, Sumner improved one spot to take first in the old-school classic Stud High/Low (aka Stud-8). He also collected the bounty by knocking out S.Braswell. Both mom & son Sudduth impressively finished in the money, yet again! But this time Jean Sudduth took second besting her spawn who finished in 3rd place. The Gundam Point Leader, Scott Braswell was the bubble-boy. With M.Sudduth’s 3rd place finish and Braswell’s bubble, they now tie for the Gundam Point lead, so there will be a double-bounty for WSOG Event#7.

WSOG #05: Hoffman brings bracelet to Missouri beating a large Omaha field

Hoffman got off to a fast start (winning the fast-break bonus) but got banged-up midway in the event only to come back strong ousting T.Sumner, the 2nd place finisher. M.Sudduth stacks-up more Gundam points by finishing third and his mom, Jean making the final money position in 4th but capturing both the bounty bonus and the chip & chair bonus!
