WSOG 2024 : Rules & Events

The World Series of Gundam™ (WSOG™) is a year long poker extravaganza! Started by a gaggle of engineers in 2007, the 2024 WSOG schedule includes twelve tournaments; eleven $22 buy-in tournaments and a grand finale $44 WSOG Main Event with double the prize pool and double the points!

In addition to immediately winning the tournament money-prize in each tournament, players accumulate Gundam Points based on their final position with additional points for winning & cashing. There are also Gundam Bonus points awarded for being able to achieve specific milestones during a tournament. These milestones include: being chip leader after Round 3 (Fast-Break Bonus), best improvement in position (Chip-n-Chair Bonus) or knocking out the current Gundam Point Leader (Bounty Bonus.)
At the end of the year, the points are totaled and a Gundam Championship is crowned, who takes control of the Gundam Necklace, wins the Gundam Trophy and is awarded the 1st place Championship prize pool (there is often 2nd and 3rd place prize money as well.)

Summary of 2024 World Series of Gundam Points

Gundam Position Dependent Points

  • Position Points (PP) = No. of Players – Place + 1
  • Victory Points (VP) = +2, for winning the tournament
  • Cash-Out Points (COP) = +2, for making the money
  • Bubble Boy Point (BBP) = +1, for closest to money (bubble-boy)

Gundam Late Registration (Re-entry)

  • While each WSOG Tournament starts @ 8PM ET, there is a late-registration period that lasts until the end of the first break.
  • During the late-registration period, re-entry into the tournament is allowed.
  • Rebuy tournaments typically extend beyond the late-registration period, and try to allow for the player to stay at the same seat they busted out in.

Gundam Bonus Points

  • Bounty Bonus (BY) = +1, Player who knocks out the Gundam Point Leader gets a point (+1) and takes a point from the Gundam Point Leader (-1). If there is a tie for Gundam Point Leader, a bounty is placed on all tied for 1st. If a Gundam Point Leader wins the tournament, they get the Bounty Bonus (+1) and no point is taken from them. If no Gundam Point Leader is participating in the tournament or if it is the first tournament of the series the Bounty Bonus is not available.
  • Chip-n-Chair (CC) = +1, greatest position improvement from end of Round 3 (unless it is a re-buy tournament*) to end of tournament (tie-break goes to lowest place finish.)
  • Fast Break Bonus (FB) = +1, chip leader at the end of Round 3 (unless it is a re-buy tournament*.) In a tie (equal chip stacks) both players are awarded bonus.

* There is an exception for Re-buy tournaments. In re-buy tournaments, the position assessment occurs at the end of the re-buy time period.

World Series of Gundam Championship

Each tournament is treated as a stand-alone tournament, with its own prize-pool. So, if you aren’t interested in all the tournaments, you can still have fun participating in any given WSOG tournament. Less than 10% of the buy-in is diverted to the WSOG Championship fund, leaving >90% going to the immediate prize-pool. All of the money goes back to the players (no rake, no house profit.)

The player with the most Gundam Points at the end of the year is declared the World Series of Gundam Champion and wins the 1st place payout and the championship trophy!

What if there is a tie?
If two or more players tie for 1st place all negative bounty points will be given back to the tied players and their resulting points compared (in-other-words, being in 1st more often won’t be held against a player in a tie-break.) If the players are still tied then a 3-Game Mix (HOE) tournament will determine the champion. For any other tie (2nd place and below), negative bounty points are re-instated and resulting points compared. If there is still a tie, then only the positional dependent points should be compared (remove all non-positional bonus points.) If there is still a tie, then positional dependent points should be removed and resulting points compared, in this order: Bubble-Boy, Cash-Out and Victory Points. If there is still a tie, then the prize-pool should be added and equally split among the tied players or they can make their own arrangements of which they both must agree.

The payout structure for the Championship is determined by using the standard Gundam tournament payout structure where the equivalent # of players is the rounded average # of players in all the events over the entire series. The “virtual” buy-in is calculated by dividing the rounded average # of players into the total prize-pool.
